Saya baca berkali-kali. Paham secara umum, tapi beberapa istilah bikin ragu. Apa bedanya scope dan deliverables? Kick-off itu apa? EOW?
Akhirnya saya Google satu-satu sambil malu-malu bertanya ke client untuk clarify. Untungnya client-nya sabar.
Tapi tidak semua client sabar. Dan salah paham brief = salah deliver = client tidak happy = bye bye rating.

Setiap project brief, entah dari Upwork, Fiverr, atau direct client, biasanya punya struktur yang mirip:

Ini sering membingungkan. Begini cara mudah membedakannya:

- Soft deadline: Target yang ideal, tapi ada flexibility kalau perlu.

"2 revision rounds included" berarti:
- Kamu deliver versi 1
- Client kasih feedback, kamu revise → Versi 2 (Round 1)
- Client kasih feedback lagi, kamu revise → Versi 3 (Round 2)
- Selesai. Revisi tambahan = additional fee.
Kalau brief tidak mention revision rounds, TANYAKAN. "How many revision rounds are included?" Ini melindungi kamu dari endless revisions.

Tip 3: Screenshot dan Highlight

Kalau client bilang "EOD", selalu confirm timezone-nya. EOD di San Francisco (PST) adalah pagi hari di Indonesia. Miscommunication soal timezone adalah salah satu penyebab terbesar missed deadlines. Biasakan confirm: "EOD in your timezone? That would be [X] AM my time."
Tip 2: ASAP Tidak Selalu Berarti "Sekarang Juga"
ASAP sering dipakai terlalu casual. Kadang client bilang ASAP tapi sebenarnya deadline-nya minggu depan. Selalu tanya: "What's the actual deadline for this?" atau "Is this a priority over [other tasks]?" Ini membantu kamu prioritize dengan benar.

Payment & Contract Terms - Vocabulary untuk Negosiasi yang Menguntungkan
Vocabulary seputar payment dan contract sangat penting untuk freelancer. Memahami istilah seperti net 30, milestone payments, retainer, dan scope creep bisa melindungi kamu dari masalah pembayaran dan ekspektasi yang tidak jelas. Bagian ini membahas terms yang sering muncul saat negosiasi dan kontrak.
Project pertama saya dengan client enterprise adalah disaster.
Bukan karena kerjaan jelek. Deliverables approved, client happy, project selesai on time.
Tapi payment? Baru masuk 45 hari kemudian.
Kenapa? Karena di kontrak tertulis "Net 30" dan saya tidak paham artinya. Saya kira payment langsung setelah project selesai. Ternyata "Net 30" berarti client punya waktu 30 hari SETELAH invoice untuk bayar. Dan invoice baru bisa dikirim setelah project complete dan approved.
30 hari kerja + 30 hari payment term + processing time = hampir 2 bulan tanpa income dari project itu.
Lesson learned: Paham payment terms SEBELUM mulai kerja. Bukan setelah.
